Sussex RFU covers the administrative areas of East and West Sussex,
and the City of Brighton and Hove, within the ancient County of Sussex
which runs for 90 miles (144 kms) along the South coast of England,

The City of Brighton and Hove, is the home of one of the oldest Rugby clubs in the world,
Brighton Football Club (RFU) -
because they started playing in 1868, before the Football Association (Soccer) was founded, they retain the title "Football Club" in their name.     Several other Sussex Clubs were also in existence in the 1880's and the County Union was formed in 1883.     Other main towns are Bognor, Chichester, Worthing, Horsham, Crawley, East Grinstead, Lewes, Haywards Heath, Crowborough, Eastbourne and  Hastings.

There are 36 Clubs in membership, in most towns and many  villages in the County, together with three Universities at Sussex, Brighton (including their Eastbourne campus),
 and University College, Chichester.

The Union is run by the 'General Committee'  of representatives from  every Club and affiliated Society and Union, who elect a Management Committee annually, and send a representative to meetings which are held throughout the Season at various clubs.

Mr. Graham Thompson

A former Chairman of Lewes RFC, Graham served as Treasurer of the County, before becoming County President 1996-98.   He then undertook, with great success, the task of Facilities advisor and has helped many clubs improve their Ground and Clubhouses.  a Life vice-President of the County.

Following the election of Bob Rogers to the Presidency of the Rugby Union, he was elected as Sussex Representative to the RFU.in 2006

the first Sussex  representative to hold that
