Every side fielded by every  Sussex Club is able to take part in a full League programme and at least one Knock-out Competition. Sussex RFU express their grateful thanks Ken Nichols, Chairman of the Sussex Competitions Committee, and the committee members and  the League Secretaries, especially to Mike Richardson who has drawn up and organises both the Sussex Leagues and the Sussex Junior Knockouts and to Ken Nichols, organiser of the Sussex Knock-outs,

ALL COMPETITIONS – TECHNICAL AREAS

The RFU has issued the following regulation for 2005/6
Each Club playing in the Leagues at  level 5 (London 1) or  below, must unless the Referee agrees otherwise, , ensure that replacements, medical staff, coaching staff and any other representatives, are not permitted within the pitchside or perimeter fencing (or 10 metres from the edge of the pitch if there is no fencing, unless such personnel remain on the side of the pitch designated by the Home Club within an area bounded by the centre and 10 metre line the pitch, and two metres from the side line of the pitch at the end of the pitch in which it’s team plays the first half of the match. Regulation in Competitions Handbook – para 17.5
Sussex Referees Society comments :For Level 5 and below it is not considered necessary or practical for all pitches to be marked with a "technical area". Ideally they should be but all coaches, physios, replacements etc. etc. should remain in an area between the half way line and 10 metre line (one team on each side of the halfway line and both on the same side of the field) and keep a suitable distance back from the touchline - 2 metres.   The idea is that coaches and others do not "prowl up and down the full touchline.  None of this is actually a change but clubs (and referees) are asked to comply at all levels to remove any temptation for "over excitement" in critical areas of the field eg. near the goal line. In recent seasons previous instructions have gradually fallen into disuse. The reminder is all part of the focus on better discipline. I would hope that it will only be necessary to enforce such a regulation when all else fails. Nevertheless it is important for clubs to know what the requirements are.  The regulations apply to the English Clubs Championship but it is obviously up to each CB to say how they should be applied to all matches under their jurisdiction. I would suggest that for consistency we should apply this to all rugby is Sussex.
